Geographic location: The central-western plateau in the north of southern Africa.

Climate: Dry; summers are wet, and winters are dry but not cold. Characterized by numerous, spontaneous fires.

Typical flora: Rolling grasslands, sparsely dotted with trees and shrubs (the name is originally Spanish, for ‘land of trees and grass’).
