The Sacred Lotus Nelumbo nucifera, the sacred lotus, is a water plant from the far east whose leaves shed water as an adaptation to the monsoon rains of the region. The flowers are among the most beautiful in the world, and attract a wide variety of insects. The plant is holy among some cultures, and symbolizes the beauty which can emerge from the wet and slimy mud. Nearly every part of the plant is edible.
A task for the young researchers-
A good researcher makes sure to check the facts. Pour some water (just water!) on the lotus leaves and see if you manage to wet them. Did you succeed? Cinderlotus always stays dry.
