The rare Hauran Biarum (Biarum auraniticum) from the Golan Heights is currently blooming in the garden.
why is there a fly on the inflorescence’s spathe?

Riddle’s Solution:
Hauran Biarum attracts flies to pollinate it. The flies are attracted to the foul scent, go inside the Biarum and get trapped inside it. they get covered with pollen, and when they manage to climb out and are attracted to another flower – they will pollinate it once they go inside.
Hauran Biarum is also our current plant of the month on the Garden’s website.

The weekend riddle is published in Facebook every Friday noon, the solution is published in Facebook on the following Sunday, together with the publication on this site.
