Weekend Riddle:

Astragalus sparsus is currently blooming in the garden’s conservatory. This is an endangered species from the Eilat area, where the annual rainfall is only 16-20mm.
How does this plant survives the long drought periods, that can last several years?

Riddle solution:

Astragalus sparsus  is a perennial plant. it reduces to root that stays dormant in the ground, waiting in the drought periods until the next rain.
In addition, the plant spreads its hardy long-lived seeds. these seeds are hard to crack, and they will spout after the next rain.
Come and see the Astragalus sparsus blooming in the Desert section of the Tropical Conservatory.

The weekend riddle is published in Facebook every Friday noon, the solution is published in Facebook on the following Sunday, together with the publication on this site.
