Weekend Riddle:

In the picture you can see Madagascan Pitcher Plant (Nepenthes madagascariensis) – a carnivorous plant. why must the Pitcher Plant be carnivorous and digest insects, unlike many other plants, and what is its habitat?

Riddle’s answer:

The Madagascan Pitcher Plant grows at spring edges, where the soil is poor in minerals, as the water wash them away. the carnivorous mechanism evolved in this plant in order to obtain minerals: the insects fall into the pitcher and drown, and the plant can absorb the minerals it is missing – from their bodies.

The weekend riddle is published in Facebook every Friday noon, the solution is published in Facebook on the following Sunday, together with the publication on this site.
