The Butterfly Monitoring Project
בתי גידול נהרסים בקנה מידה עצום, וכעת דפוסי האקלים ומזג האוויר משתנים באופן בלתי צפוי בתגובה לזיהום האטמוספירה, אך היעלמותם של היצורים היפים הללו חמורה יותר מסתם אובדן צבע באזורים הכפריים. פרפרים הם מד החום של הטבע ונחשבים לאינדיקטור אקולוגי אידיאלי, שכן הם רגישים מאוד ומגיבים במהירות לשינויים במצב הסביבה.
Habitats have been destroyed on a massive scale, and now patterns of climate and weather are shifting unpredictably in response to pollution of the atmosphere but the disappearance of these beautiful creatures is more serious than just a loss of color in the countryside. Butterflies are the thermometer of nature and are considered an ideal ecological indicator, as they are highly sensitive and quick responders to changes in the state of the environment.
פרויקט ניטור הפרפרים בתמיכת קרן סאמיס בוחן את המגוון הביולוגי על ידי ניטור הקשר בין צמחים ומאביקים. בחרנו להתמקד בפרפרים מכיוון שהם נחשבים לאינדיקטורים ביולוגיים חיוניים המייצגים את מצב המגוון הביולוגי ותפקודים קריטיים של המערכת האקולוגית. נכון לעכשיו, אנו עוקבים אחר השפע של מגוון רחב של מיני פרפרים אצלנו בגן. אנו מתכננים להשוות את התוצאות לאלו של אזורים עירוניים כדי להעריך את חשיבות הגן בתמיכה במגוון הביולוגי העירוני של ירושלים.
The Butterfly Monitoring Project, supported by the SAMIS Foundation, examines biodiversity by monitoring the relationship between plants and pollinators. We chose to focus on butterflies as they are considered essential bioindicators representing the state of biodiversity and critical ecosystem functions. Currently, we are monitoring the abundance of a wide range of butterfly species in the JBG. We plan on comparing the results with those of urban areas to assess the importance of the garden in supporting Jerusalem's urban biodiversity.
