מיזם לריבוי וגידול צמחים בסכנת הכחדה
בישראל הקטנה והצפופה יש יותר מ-430 מיני צמחים בסכנת הכחדה.
מינים אלה הולכים ונעלמים בעיקר בשל אובדן בתי גידול עבור פיתוח עירוני, חקלאי ותעשייתי, אולם גם בשל סיבות אחרות כגון זיהום, מינים פולשים הדוחקים אותם ושינויי אקלים.
In the small and crowded Israel, there are over 430 endangered plant species. These species are progressively vanishing, especially due to the loss of habitats for the benefit of urban, agricultural, and industrial development, but also due to additional reasons such as pollution, invasive species that oust them, and climate changes.
הגן הבוטני והקרן הקימת לישראל מגדלים ומשמרים את רובם, אוספים אותם בצורת זרעים וייחורים, מרבים אותם, מפיצים את הצמחים שאנחנו מגדלים לגנים נוספים ואף משיבים אותם לטבע ולמקומות טבעיים למחצה, ובכך אנו תורמים לשימור הצמחים הללו כחלק מהמאמץ לשימור מגוון מיני הצמחים בארץ.
The Jerusalem Botanical Gardens and the Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael grow and preserve most of them. We collect the plants in the form of seeds and cuttings, which we propagate and grow. We then distribute the plants to additional gardens and even return them to nature, and semi-natural locations. In this manner, we contribute to the conservation of these plants, as part of the efforts to preserve the whole diversity of plant species in Israel.
